- The holidays were fun, but the work one day, get two days off, work two days, get two days off, work a day, get two days off, work a day thing was kind of annoying. Not that it interfered with any great plans or anything, it's just nice when it's in a block. It was nice to have my brother and his wife join us for the Christmas Eve dinner and I'm glad they're living in the PNW now.

- Garrett's mom took us to the casino on the afternoon of New Year's Eve and gave us money to gamble with! Unfortunately, because of the holiday, the buffet price was jacked up, so we did the cafe instead. I'd been looking forward to the buffet. Oink. Just like last time, I gambled everything away. At least I found a new favorite slot machine. And we finally got to see our friend Drew's historic house and his amazing collection of antiques. He's one of those people who restores pocket watches, appliances, and even old cars. Smart dude.

- Been writing a book based on my crazy times about ten years ago. I've tried to do this a couple of times before, but not enough time had passed and I wasn't ready. Suddenly I totally am, and the words have been flying out of me. I don't know what day I started, but it was about three or four weeks ago and I'm already over 42,000 words. I'm not sure if I'll ever try to publish it or anything, but it's been great to do it either way.

- It's been nice to have some new friends on here and see others resume posting! I've always considered the FB experience to be very ephemeral and am glad to have a nice archive here.

I'm transcribing some old notes for my book, which means I don't have to stop and think while typing. The only real breaks happen when I can't read something I wrote. I just typed over 3,500 words without stopping. My right wrist hates me, but it feels awesome, too.

I have a pretty big music collection and no playlists. I always just listen on shuffle, and skip if I don't feel like hearing whatever comes on. I'm really grateful for earbuds that have skip/volume controls on the cord, because I used to have to pull the iPod out of my pocket a lot.

Once in a while, I hear a song I don't recognize at all. I'm sure some of the time, I've heard it and forgotten, but I'm almost positive other times that I've just never heard it before. This one from this morning is one of the latter.

I just saw a post on tumblr which was a link to something I didn't bother clicking on, but the caption was, "Can't hear this without thinking of Valley Girl." Even though I've thought about the song "Valley Girl" a lot in the last few days because I follow Moon Zappa on Twitter, I knew this was about the movie for some reason.

I pictured Deborah Foreman asking Val Kilmer if he could hammer a six-inch spike through a board with his penis, and then realized that's from Real Genius. IMDb confirmed that Deborah Foreman was also the titular Valley Girl from the movie. I haven't seen Real Genius in at least eight years, and it's been another five or so more for Valley Girl.

The human brain is amazing. Or, at least, mine is.

Not that I need any more stuff, but I kinda regret not grabbing one of these at Bed, Bath, and Black Hole the other day. These crack me up because I see them all the time in pictures of cats and stuff. I only glanced toward the prices and didn't notice the tubs were so cheap. It's always easy to turn away when you see numbers like $27.99.

When winter got all dark and wintery, I stopped walking across Marymoor Park each morning. Parks in the dark are just weird. But I was missing it, so I did it today, and ended up seeing more people on the trail than I can ever remember seeing in one day before when it was light out.

Do people like to go out in the dark more? I don't. Am I the weird one?
